Punts on the River Cam

Mixed weather at Cambridge. Here is a sunny spell…

And here is a not sunny spell, the other direction from the same bridge.

Colin’s punt shot.

My bikes shot. You wouldn’t believe theĀ  number of bikes being ridden at speed around Cambridge, they are everywhere. You daren’t move from walking the straight and narrow for fear of them coming up behind and hitting you.

The Mathematical Bridge. There are many stories about this bridge, and as always, Google is your friend. Made me think we will have to come back when there are leaves on the trees.

Old Court, Corpus Christi College

The Old Court, Corpus Christi College, built in the 1350’s. It really has atmosphere! It must be haunted I think. The building behind is the old Cavendish Laboratory, where Ernest Rutherford (from Nelson, NZ) worked. As I’m sure you know, he was the first to split the atom, and was at university at the old Arts Centre in Chch before he went to Cambridge. Also, Watson and Crick deduced the structure of DNA here. Google is our friend too.

This is the Gate of Honour, Gonville and Caius College (where Stephen Hawking is a Fellow). This is used ceremonially only once a year, when students process through it to the Senate House to get their degrees. I almost wished I had worked harder at school, and come here myself. It would have been pointless really, I never have liked work all that much.

Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge

Above the gate of Gonville and Caius. This is what we do when we can’t get far enough away to get the full building in, or there are white vans in the way.

Today, we are off to London!
