HMS Warrior, the Royal Navy’s first iron hulled ship. We also went to look at the Victory, but they have removed the top masts for maintenance, so it looks rather stumpy at the moment.
The Spinnaker Tower, and one of the many old ship’s figureheads scattered around the town.

A view across to Old Portsmouth.

We crossed to Gosport on the ferry – this is the view of Portsmouth from Gosport.

A landing craft.
Cordyline Australis Ubiquitous, Gosport. The USS Theodore Roosevelt was in the Solent, but we didn’t see it. Too far out, however the crew were on shore leave. They are nearly all black or Hispanic, and roam the town in gangs, though very well behaved.

Southampton, the old city walls. This is a replica of a boat dug out from this spot by archaeologists, and shows where the sea used to be!

A medieval merchant’s house, now can be hired as a wedding venue! The gate on its right is the old Westgate of the city, and through this gate marched the men who fought at the battle of Agincourt in 1415. It is also the spot from where the Pilgrim Fathers left for the new world.

The Tudor House, built in the 15th century and now a museum.

Southampton Guildhall, and lots of school parties on the steps, waiting for it to open.

Bargate – used to be the Northern gate of the town, but now in the middle of the shopping centre.
The other side of the Bargate – this faced the outside of the town. You can see where the old city wall was taken down.

The English Channel. Yes, we are now in France!
Haha! I see you have the full Latin name for cabbage trees there 🙂
Where are you in France and what are the plans?
