Another city we like better than Barcelona!

Lots of interesting things to see and do!

We have had some great weather, some not so great. We have walked miles!

After two exhausting days, we took the tour bus for the next two days.

This is in part of what used to be the ship building area. There used to be 62 shipyards, now there are only 2. Of course they built a conference centre, an arena, hotels, etc. This is one of 23 bridges on the Clyde.

If cities are going to put white bridges in, I wish they would commit to keeping them spick and span!

Some of the new buildings have been designed like upturned ship hulls, to remember the city’s industrial heritage. This is the Science Museum, the only museum we saw where you had to pay to go in.

The Riverside Museum from the Govan ferry, all free. Useful if your attention span for culture is quite short. We went in here twice, for short visits, and enjoyed both.

The story is that in the old days, Celtic supporters had to go upstairs on the trams, Rangers downstairs (their team colours are orange and green) to prevent trouble.

1937 Bentley.

The world’s oldest bicycle. The Scots invented bikes too, another of their hits!

Inside the Riverside Museum.

We found an American diner It looks the part….

but the portions are much smaller. Only 3 pancakes, over there you would have got 6, and they would have stacked them to get them all on the plate. Colin says they were stingy with the maple syrup too, but we are in Scotland. Look at the baby jukebox!

The scrambled egg on toast was made without any butter, then you got a couple of packs to have with it. On this occasion I was good and did without. Another new scarf, I am on a mission to see how many scarves I can get inside a caravan.

Another of those upturned ship hulls.

Tenements are the equivalent of the type of terraced house we see so many of in Yorkshire – built for the thousands of workers coming into the city from the countryside in the industrial revolution. These ones are quite upmarket.

I knew there was something different about this cathedral but it didn’t immediately click, then I realised the stone hasn’t been cleaned. It’s still coated in Glasgow’s industrial heritage.

They have a very fancy necropolis, as the rich merchants of the city continued to try to impress everyone else even after they were dead, with these memorials.

There is a banner on the front of this building, carefully almost hidden, which says “Welcome Refugees”‘

Since we visited this station 10 times, thought we’d better take a photo.

We got up early on this morning and the light was looking good…

but when we got into the city it was foggy, so we amused ourselves with some Bridge on the Clyde pics…

until the sun came out.

Fanciest Imax we’ve ever seen!
There’s lots more, but we have been here a week. We are now off to Loch Lomond.
Is that a Ford Cortina and Thomas the tank engine in the background of the Bentley pic?
The police car is a Granada (looks very similar to a Falcon XD), and there are a couple of Thomas-ish 0-6-0 tank engines about there. No faces on them, though.
I thought it looked like a Cortina too! A bit wide though…
