Colin has always said that the west coast of Scotland is far more interesting than the East, and he is right. The top of the west coast is very spectacular, then you get to the actual north coast, which is just moorland. We crossed in very dull weather, and arrived at John o’ Groats, which, considering it is so famous, has very little going for it.

We had a night here to break the journey. Looks like we had great weather! but it was only for a short while. We didn’t take any more photos until we got to John o’ Groats, where we also had only a small amount of sunshine.

There is a very nice headland, Duncansby Head.

We met another photographer here, who had been to Iceland 5 times! Definitely recommends it. We are now spending more time in the caravan than out of it, and we are thinking we have had it for good weather. The autumn leaves are rapidly blowing off the trees, and we are speeding up our progress south, leaving out places that really need good weather or leaves on trees. Our next stop was Inverness, quite a nice town, and after the wild north, feels like back to civilisation.

Yes! It has a mall! Yes, I did shop!

And a cathedral…

A fake castle, which is actually the sheriff court (Scottish law is different from English)…

And a river with quite a nice bridge and a lot of churches. We had this one beautiful day, when it was so warm, we didn’t need coats, but have had two poor days since. I guess the fact that I am talking so much about the weather tells its own story – I haven’t got much to say about these places! Tomorrow we are off to Aberdeen.
