Nantes and Toulouse

One of these cities, was a hit, the other, a miss. 2015_04_0535Nantes has great public transport, and you can buy your tickets on line and store them on your phone.

The Chateau of the Dukes of Normandy. You can go into the grounds and look around for free!

There is a green line painted on the floor (like a marathon line) and if you follow it, it takes you to all the tourist attractions. This is the Opera House.

Great shopping! The one hard thing about this trip is all the shops I walk by without going in!

The Great Elephant of Nantes, Loire Atlantique, France.

And of course, an elephant! The men at the back are the engineers – they seemed to be having some trouble with it.

Nantes is lovely, and I would thoroughly recommend.

The Saint Pierre Bridge and the dome of the La Grace Hospital re

Toulouse has a river which is very smooth at this point due to a nearby weir. This is the Saint-Pierre Bridge and the La Grace Hospital.

Most of the buildings are red brick.

Reasonably attractive streets and buildings.

Canal du Midi, Toulouse, Haute-Garonne, Midi-Pyrenees, France.

The famous Canal du Midi, which runs from Toulouse to the Mediterranean – you can take canal boats out, much like you can in Britain.

Apart from a couple of the self cleaning types, which were either closed or not in working order, the city has no public toilets whatsoever – not in the town centre, not in the Tourist Information Office, not even in McDonalds, not in the bus station or in the Metro, not in the public parks. It could be that there were more photographic opportunities, but I had to come back to the camp site, a journey by train, bus and foot. Colin did the same as other men we saw, and went in the bushes, but those opportunities aren’t available to women – too many people about. I have to assume that it’s deliberate policy. But why?

Therefore, Toulouse is definitely a miss!

Tomorrow, we are off to Perpignan, which is only about 10k from the Mediterranean, which I haven’t seen for over 20 years, Colin never. We are excited!
