Well, Edinburgh can certainly do rain. This does sometimes give some interesting light – we always enjoy these moody skies.

The weather was so bad we didn’t bother going into Aberdeen, but we couldn’t resist seeing Dunnottar Castle, which must have the most dramatic location of any Scottish Castle.
Colin has always said that the west coast of Scotland is far more interesting than the East, and he is right. The top of the west coast is very spectacular, then you get to the actual north coast, which is just moorland. We crossed in very dull weather, and arrived at John o’ Groats, which, considering it is so famous, has very little going for it.

We had a night here to break the journey. Looks like we had great weather! but it was only for a short while. We didn’t take any more photos until we got to John o’ Groats, where we also had only a small amount of sunshine.
We are further north now than we have ever been before, on the ground at any rate! Checked a map, and we are further north than the southern tip of Norway! I hadn’t realised Britain went that far!
This is a very beautiful island. I hadn’t thought it would be as lovely as Skye, but it is. Different, but just as nice. The most famous attraction here is the Callanish Stone Circle.

We were lucky enough to get these lovely clouds on the first day we were here.

Who could resist stopping off at Eilean Donan Castle? We photographed it last time we were here, but the light was kinder this time, both in the evening…

There is something special about Glencoe, I don’t know if it’s the awful weather or the even worse biting insects, but in spite of all that we love it.
However, we had one fantastic day’s sunshine. We got up for sunrise…

We have had such a good time in and around Oban. It’s a gorgeous place, not at all run down like so many seaside places.

The town has a lovely harbour, and is the port for Mull and some smaller islands, so it”s always full of ferries.
Loch Lomond isn’t the most exciting or the most beautiful place in Scotland, no matter what the song says.

It’s quite pretty.
