Corfe Castle

There seems to be a bank of smog hanging over the whole of southern England, making everything far away look faint and hazy. We are going to turn back north, no point being here when the weather is so unphotogenic. Don’t know how long it will take, depends how things look on the way. We will pick up our stuff in Yorkshire, Colin will look at a few niggles on the van, then we will head north.

  1. Do you know if the locals think the smog will clear away? Or is it just northern hemisphere pollution?

  2. We’re off to Northumberland on Tuesday. Might you get that far? I know a good pub in Seahouses, and of course you’ll be very familiar with the photo opportunities in Bamburgh/Lindisfarne/Dunstanbugh, where your NT cards will come in handy.

  3. Hi Kelby,

We in the northern hemisphere invented smog around the time of the industrial revolution and spent 200 years exporting it globally. And I think we’ll spend the next 200 years trying to persuade the southern hemisphere to be more restrained. Not photogenic eh?

  4. I think the pollution in this case is caused by too many cars and the dry, still conditions we have had. Today is windy and it’s looking much clearer, however we have now left the south coast as it was cold and raining. We are back at Avebury, we seem to have driven into sunshine.
The pub at Seahouses sounds good, but I don’t know if we will get there in time. How long are you staying?

  5. We’re booked in at St Aidan’s hotel on the road from Seahouses to Bamburgh, just by the harbour. We’ll be there 4 nights, Tuesday to Friday. There’s a caravan site behind, but I don’t know whether they take mobiles.

Intending to visit Bamburgh and Lindisfarne, again and Cragside for the first time – look it up in your NT book and you’ll want to go there too
