Catching Up

We’ve moved around a bit since our last post, so this is an update on where we’ve been.

The first pic is the old walled city of Saint-Malo, once a haunt of corsairs (pirates or privateers, depending on whether there was a war on at the time), from the beach at low tide.

We popped down to Dinan on Saturday, another old walled city, and another interesting place. This is the view from the ramparts to the old port on the Rance. We stayed overnight on the bank of the river, just out of shot to the right. Parking overnight is free and there’s a ‘camping-car’ area.

We went back to Saint-Malo to sort out some glitches with our local mobile broadband adaptor – SFR are the local manifestation of Vodafone and just as efficient as you might expect.

Next on to Cap Fréhel, lots of rugged coastline and pink granite.

We are now on the mainland opposite Île de Bréhat, and we took a boat trip across today. Great place, no cars apart from the local council vehicles, including very narrow fire engines to fit the roads, and we walked from one end of the two main islands to the other. The weather has improved a lot lately. Moving further west next, and it looks as if we won’t get much outside Brittany this trip. Just too much to see!

  1. I keep looking at all of the old structures and wondering what would happen in an earthquake. It’s all very pretty though!!!

  2. I don’t think the French know about earthquakes, so they don’t see it as much of a problem.

  3. Have you run into the Tour de France at all? It’s on at the moment and they are currently in Brittany.
