Today we went on a 5 hour bus tour of Kyoto, and visited 3 temples.

Temple 1, Kinkaku-ji.

Vending machines at Temple 2. You can get cans of hot coffee from vending machines here!

Temple 2, Kiyumiza-dera, with Kyoto in the background.

Tourists making their way to Temple 3. Look at the overhead wires! These are everywhere. Saves digging the road up I suppose.

A display of plastic imitation food at a restaurant near Temple 3.

Temple 3, Ginkaku-ji. This was the best one, with a beautiful garden. I have always wanted to see a real Japanese garden. I would like to put something similar on our section, but I think they are deceptively simple.

Look at all that raked gravel.

Yes, that is all sand! All done by hand apparently. Just imagine the autumn leaves landing on it, and the damage done by rain and wind.

The bento box that we had for tea. Sorry can’t help you with what some of it was, we didn’t know after we had eaten it. It was OK, but went to Starbucks for coffee and cake afterward.
