Colin’s Home Area

Although Colin claims Scotland as his home, he lived in Worcester from the age of 5. He lost his Scottish accent, because the locals couldn’t understand him! In fact, I’ve noticed recently that he’s been emphasizing his Irish ancestry – have the Scots Nationalists put him off?

I though this was father and daughter, but it’s a tall man and a short woman! Is this what Colin and I look like?

And why not? The pasty was invented for Cornish miners, taking their food underground – wish I’d been hungry enough to try one!

Vic and Caroline will probably remember Stratford, though it’s changed quite a bit. This was Spring Bank Holiday Sunday. You can see the unclear air, looking at the sky.

It’s alive! With a few friends, it was collecting money for birds of prey protection.

Anne was the wife of William Shakespeare. We went inside here, makes me thankful we no longer have to live in such places, pretty though it is!

We are deep in black and white house country here! I can’t help noticing that when I see a passer by looking colourful and smart, they are usually Asian.

Another cathedral. It’s interesting that so many cathedrals, built from say 1100AD, have survived, but no ordinary buildings. The oldest we have seen are from the 1400’s. Why? What changed?

So many lovely towns in this country, why was I born in such an ugly one? I know, it’s because my ancestors moved there for work. Colin did not live in this area after age 19, he moved for work to much less attractive places. Correction, he has just told me he lived in Worcester for a couple of years, but then it was back to the uglies.

I have seen a necklace on line for £125, and I keep looking at market stalls, hoping to find an identical one for a fiver.

After the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII, the people of Tewkesbury bought the abbey for the price of the scrap metal it contained, because they considered it their parish church, and so it still is, the second biggest parish church in the country.

As you can see, it’s very big! Looked very dark inside, didn’t bother going in.

We have now left black and white country, and are in the Forest of Dean, where it is cold, grey and windy. The showers are lukewarm too! All we have done so far is go to Tesco, and of course have lukewarm showers. There are lovely places around, Symonds Yat, Monmouth, so hoping for improvement. Next stop will be Cheddar, and our trip to Ibiza!
