As predicted, there is no blog from Castleton. We spent four days sitting in the caravan, listening to the rain pounding down on the roof. It was a shame, as there was a lot of heather in flower, it would have looked really pretty. I have noticed that England and Wales seem to have a lot more heather than Scotland, so I don’t know why Scotland is so famous for heather. At least we had internet to entertain ourselves! Who can remember the days before internet? What did we do? Our last site in the Lake District had no internet or phone. This always peeves me, I feel like sulking and saying I’m not going on any more sites without internet. Then I think, how ridiculous, I lived 40 years without it! I can remember the first time Colin showed me email, must have been about 1992, one of those jaw dropping moments, and saying, it’s going to change everything, and sitting there thinking about all the things that would change. Well, here we are, in just those few years it has changed everything, to the point where I feel like sulking if I can’t have it. No matter what I tell myself, I am still glad to move on back to civilization, and get my internet fix. Still, the weather was quite nice in the lakes, we were able to go out every day.

This old man didn’t manage to escape the clutches of the Oxfam collector.

One of the pretty towns in the area. Had a cream tea for lunch, biggest scone I’ve ever seen, I was full after half, but still ate it all up. Had to leave my gingerbread though!

Interesting the way real food never looks as tempting as set up shots…

I enjoyed doing those scones back in 2012, every time I look at them, I could eat them again. Still, I remind myself that I have lost 2 stone since I gave up food photography! I digress…

One of the unattractive towns in the area. That canopy is the best they could come up with to make the place more interesting?

After several attempts over the years, we finally get some sunshine at Castlerigg! And we had fully five minutes before a load of people arrived and stood in the middle. You have to be quick!

Had to fake the sky for this one, everyone wants to believe that they will get great weather when they go. The triumph of hope over experience!

Real sky for this one. This is a lovely part of the world, in the pub, where we hoped to get food but didn’t, we were too early, (hope over experience again) they had a sign which said, “No, we do not have Wi Fi! Talk to each other!”

One of the less interesting lakes.

In Roman times, Glannoventa was the biggest port in Britain. This is the remains of the Roman bath house. Looks a bit jerry built, surprised it has survived.

The owners really make an effort here!

Look at that dustbin! One of my pet hates is dustbins kept in the front garden, but if they all looked as good as this, it would be a lot more fun.
We have now moved on to Edinburgh, where we hope to get some leafy photos. When we were here earlier, the trees hadn’t come out. Looks good so far, we have sun!
Reading this at 8.12am. Now I REALLY want a scone with jam and cream. I have some jam in the fridge so if I could be bothered I could go to the supermarket and get some clotted cream and a scone. But I can’t be bothered. This is why I don’t keep that kind of thing in the house because my laziness overcomes my food craving. Best diet strategy ever.
Lake District looks lovely. I don’t recall ever having been there. Another place to add to the list.
